If the Democratic party wants to win 2004, there’s some real dumb leadership making the “16 words” their main battle cry. How many Americans who supported the war effort, would have not supported the war if the “16 words weren’t there.” Try as they may, they certainly won’t get elected. The Democrats are putting all their effort into this and no one cares. It wasn’t even a lie. Democrats have conviently left out the “According to a British report….” Statement. For this to be an issue as the Democrats hope for, that means that the war in Iraq wasn’t worthwhile and Saddam should be back in power.
People would have to say to themselves “Oh wow, Saddam wasn’t trying to get uranium? Oh, in that case, we shouldn’t have invaded then. Saddam and his nice sons should be back in power. What were we thinking? Bush decieved me. Saddam should still be in power in Iraq. Let me vote Democrat.”
Seriously, the Dems are headed the wrong way. You have the center-right Republicans and the far left Democrats.
Bush has his own problems. I’m becoming more disenchanted by the direction of the Republican party. With control of both houses of Congress, and the White House, the Republicans should be able to reduce the government as planned. Yet, it appears we are going in the wrong direction. This session of Congress has done nothing to reduce federal spending. Instead of cutting costs, we are expanding Medicare and promising billions worldwide. It’s not the Republican Party’s job to “take away issues from the Democrats.” There was an interesting article from the Heritage Foundation that outlined ways to reduce government spending and I think more members of the Republican Party should read it. (here is the link: http://www.heritage.org/Research/Budget/bg1622.cfm)
I feel the problem lies in the fact that Bush is trying to be liked by too many people, but he forgets that no matter what he does, he will be doing the wrong thing in some people’s eyes. No matter how bad he was and how popular Reagan was, even 40 of 100 voters, voted for Walter Mondale. However in 1992, disenchanted conservative voters turned to Ross Perot out of frustration, costing Bush, Sr. the election. Although I like the tax cut a lot, it should come with reduced spending. Democrats and the NY Times will critize Bush no matter what he does, but he has to ignore them or he will frustrate voters into voting for some libertarian candiate in frustration. Thank you for your time.

Medical Liability Reform
Medical liability reform may get killed in the Senate by Democrats, since trial lawyers respresent one of their biggest campaign donors. However, they will largely escape unharmed. The CBS evening news won't talk about the cost to healthcare nor will Dateline won't do any specials showing medical centers that close because they can't afford the premiums. In response, Democrats will mount an attack saying the problem with healthcare lies solely with the lack of government funding and recent Bush tax cuts.
