Romney's right on wind subsidies

Yahoo: Romney opposes a renewal of a tax credit for wind energy suppliers, which is set to expire at the end of this year. "He will allow the wind credit to expire, end the stimulus boondoggles, and create a level playing field on which all sources of energy can compete on their merits," Romney spokesman Shawn McCoy told the Register. "Wind energy will thrive wherever it is economically competitive, and wherever private sector competitors with far more experience than the president believe the investment will produce results."

AMEN! Romney should be applauded for not pandering.  The government needs to get out of the markets. I'm tired of politicans thinking that they know what is best for the country and using "credits" aka taxpayer funded subsidies to make the economics work in their favor.

Just because wind might be plentiful in North Dakota doesn't mean it is the solution for the entire country or without major issues:

1) Wind is intermittent
2) Wind tends not to blow at the peak usage (middle of hot summer day)
3) Most power plants take 1-2 DAYS to start. So if you want your power uninterrupted, you need other power plants online that are idling in order to respond when the wind dies down. (which is inefficient and cost)
4) Areas of high wind are often hundreds of miles from population centers, resulting in long expensive transmission lines.

Bureaucrats think they know everything. They have the wind = good narrative in their mind but they don't consider the complexities.
